1977 BOYS' SOCCER
TEAM
YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2006
|
|
Steinert ended the season 24-0-0, which was the best record ever recorded by a Garden State team up
to that point. In becoming the first Mercer County team in 25 years to finish undefeated, Steinert
was ranked No. 1 in the state in three separate polls for the entire season. It was named Team of
the Decade by the Newark Star-Ledger, and even got a write-up in Playboy, of all places, as the No.
1 team in the nation that year. The Spartans set school records for victories and goals scored by one
team (117).
Rounding out the roster were Chris Pittaro, Mike Castaldo, Greg Zanoni, Don Simms, Jim Seckinger,
Ed Roderique, Jim Rivera, Don Mayer, Pat Donigan, Erik Matson, Gary Conover, John Seckinger, John Leigh,
Harold "Bird" Fink and Rich Korchma.
