YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2012



With six all-state players on the roster – including All-American Dan Donigan – the 1984 Spartans posted a 22-2-1 record and captured the Group III state championship.

Donigan, a member of the inaugural induction class of the Steinert High School Athletic Hall of Fame, scored 36 goals and had 11 assists.

Other leaders on the team that outscored its competition, 69-15, included junior Ken Durfee, who had 10 goals and 11 assists, and Jerry Chimelewski, who had seven goals.

Nine players received all-county recognition: seniors Nick Christiano, Scott Cook, Donigan, Chip Hector, Peter Kasabach and Rob Stefanowicz and juniors Joe DiMeglio, Durfee and Ray Fowler.

Donigan, Hector, Kasabach, DiMeglio, Durfee and Fowler received all-state recognition.

Donigan and Kasabach were cited for regional honors as they were named to the all-Mid-Atlantic team.

Other members of the state championship team that set a then-school record 16 shutouts for legendary coach Paul Tessein included Ken Blando, Kirk Bullock, Tony Fitch, Andy Grzenda, Bill Hornung, Craig Klein, Kevin Klopfer, Jim Kucay, Brian Matson, Brian McVicker, Mark Nouvel and Mark Zoldi. Rich Giallella was an assistant coach.
