1987 BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY

TEAM

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2007

The Spartans went 16-0 in dual meets and won nearly every big meet in sight, and did it in a way that made the school proud. They amassed the greatest cross country record in school history under coaches Jerry Bleistein and Doug Martin. Over the course of the campaign, Steinert won the Mercer County Meet, the Shore Coaches, Stewart and Essex Invitationals, Central Jersey Group III, and NJSIAA Group III. The Spartans qualified for the Meet of Champions and finished ninth.

Steinert was led by a study pack of six runners – known as the Spartan Six-Pack – consisting of Tom Canto, Tom Hooker, Doug Larkin, Aaron Oldfield, Charlie Zoda and Jeremy Schiffer. Also contributing to the effort was Rich Klosinski, Sean Larkin, Frank Ferrara and Scott Stelle. Individually, Oldfield won the Central Jersey III race and Zoda won the Junior Division of the Raider Invitational. Canto and Zoda finished 17-18 in the Meet of Champions.
