TEAM

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2013

A perfect mix of true basketball players and a host of otherwise equally talented athletes helped the 1996-97 Boys’ Basketball Team to achieve great heights. Players such as Brian Bigos, Geoff Bigos, David Hutchinson and Dahntay Jones were keys to Steinert’s 25-3 campaign.

Four members of the team have been honored by the Hall of Fame as individuals, including this year’s crop of inductees that features Coach Roger Bigos and players Brian and Geoff Bigos. Jones, the first Steinert athlete to play in the NBA, was part of the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 2006.

Joining Bigos on the coaching staff during the 1996-97 season were Al Mostrangeli, Bob Hutchinson, Steve DeStefano, Chris Rowe and Rob Guest. Joining Brian and Geoff Bigos and Dahntay Johnes on the roster were Carlos Brackley, Cory Castetter, Frank Costello, Rob Danbury, Nick Ferarra, Dave Hutchinson, Brad Jenkins, Joe Mingo, Mike Morin, Ryan Neylan, Mike Pandolfini, Rick Pfeister, Art Smith and Chris Talar.

The team, which completed an undefeated trek through the Colonial Valley Conference, captured the Central Jersey title and played in the Group IV state final.
