Using natural skills that made the game look easier than it ever could be, D’Angelo culminated his
three-year varsity career by being named All-American, All-State and All-County during his senior
season. During his high school years, D’Angelo played for the renowned Mercer County Select team and
the New Jersey State team. He has always been considered a favorite player of the legendary Manfred
Shellscheidt, who coached seemingly every great player who came through the state. “I am proud and
fortunate to have been part of the 1977 Steinert High School soccer team,” D’Angelo said.
“To share the experience of an undefeated season and a state championship with your best friends
was the highlight of my soccer career.”
D’Angelo went on to play for NCAA power Hartwick, where he participated in a Final Four.
He was drafted by both Kansas City and Phoenix of the Major Indoor Soccer League but concentrated
on outdoors. In 1982 D’Angelo helped the East team win a gold medal in the National Sports Festival.
He played for the 1983-84 U.S. Olympic Developmental team, and also played in the 1983 Pan American Games.
