The “Doctor” was Steinert’s first 1,000-point scorer, finishing his three-year varsity career with
1,073 points and a 25.1 scoring average (without a three-point line). Don earned third-team All-America
honors by Streets/Rodes as a senior and was first-team All-Group IV. He was ranked as one of the
country’s Top 100 players as a junior and a third-team All-Group IV as a sophomore. Hess earned a
full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, and was the Bearcats Player of the Year for their
freshman team.
At Hightstown High School, Hess has become one of the most successful coaches in Mercer County,
and in more than just basketball. Don is a three-time Coach of the Year in track and field, and has
won the same honor twice in both girls soccer and boys basketball.
