A three-sport varsity letter-winner, this trailblazer was the first girl to win the
individual title at the girls' county cross country championship meet in 1978. She
also helped Steinert win the first girls' team title which kicked off a streak of five
consecutive championships for the Spartans.
Winning the Mercer County Cross Country Championship Meet -- and winning the
mile race three years in a row, and the two-mile race two years in a row at the
Mercer County Girls' Track & Field meets -- were definite confidence builders as
are coming in second in the two-mile at the Group IV Sectionals, being named to
the All-Mercer County Girls Track Team and receiving a Spartan of the Year award
in 1979.
She credits all of her coaches for helping build her confidence and her character.
"I cannot choose only one coach, as several come to mind, all of which have
impacted my life in similar and differing ways," she said. "Cross Country Coach
Jerry Bleistein, in addition to positively pushing us on distance work, always had a
ready smile and pun to share. Winter Track coaches Andre Modica, Doug Martin
and Ed Connor always made sure we girls were included in everything, even
weekend drills. The first-ever Girls' Spring Track coaches, Bill Kester and Carol
Sadley, worked individually with us to better our performance in specific events
while also making us realize how lucky we were to finally have a girls' track team,
which, of course, helped generate a winning spirit and a true team feeling."
She took the lessons learned to heart.
"I would like to be remembered as a serious competitor with a ready smile,
always willing to run in whatever events asked of me," she said. "I am also proud
to be considered a teammate during the formation of womens' track at Steinert."
Post-Steinert, her "running for competition transitioned into running for
enjoyment."
Lynch-Heydacker and her family - including husband, Pierre, and daughter, Claire
Heydacker - live in Newtown Township, in Bucks County, Pa. "I have many fond
memories of this area from my days at Steinert, including runs and competitions
in Washington Crossing Park, weekend hill drills up Bowman's Tower, and of
course, team dinners at the Cock & Bull in Peddler's Village."
