YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2008



The greatest Spartan to play the game, Howland is the only player from a Hamilton Township school to ever win the Mercer County Tournament at first singles. He played varsity tennis all four years, amassing a singles record of 66-19 from 1995-1998. He was all CVC Conference every season, earning first-team accolades at first singles as a junior and second-team honors as a senior. In the USTA Junior Rankings, Howland was Top 10 in Middle States for U-12s, U-14s, U-16s and U-18s. He was a doubles quarterfinalist at the ITF International Grass Courts tournament.

He moved on to All-American status at The College of New Jersey where he won the prestigious NCAA Regional Rolex Tournament. He had a career mark of 82-27 at singles and 60-22 at doubles. He was a two-time finalist in the NCAA Division III Regional Rolex Tournament, winning it all his junior year when he finished ranked No. 7 nationally. Although his scholastic playing career has concluded, Howland remains active in the game. As a Certified US Professional Registry Tennis Instructor, Rob continues to provide instruction. He is a program director for the National Junior Tennis League of Trenton, a senior instructor for the Princeton Tennis Program and Assistant Director of Tournament Training at PTP Summer Camp.
