RANDY JACOBS

CLASS OF '90

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2010

The first freshman to play varsity soccer at Steinert, Randy Jacobs scored 96 goals during a stellar high school experience as a Spartan.

His name became synonymous with scoring as he was the best at his craft in the late 1980s. He was a leading goal scorer in New Jersey when he led Steinert to a 23-1-1 record and a state championship in 1988. He was also among the top scorers in the state in 1989.

The phrase "leading goal scorer" can also describe his impact with the G.A.K. Hamilton Strikers, which captured four state championships from 1983-88 for the program based at the German American Club. Jacobs served as team captain of the Hamilton Strikers throughout that time period, including the back-to-back Eastern Regional champions in 1987 and ’88.

From 1990-94, he enjoyed an outstanding career at the University of Massachusetts where he was a dominant performer in the Atlantic 10 Conference. A four-year letter winner, he set many records at UMass, including the all-time categories for goals and points in a season and a career. He was named All New England in 1992 (17 goals, 40 points) and 1993 (15 goals).

In addition to leading the Steinert soccer teams to a 64-13-7 record during his all-state career, he also was a four-year varsity letter winner and a two-time all-county selection with the tennis team.
