MARIO "GOOSE" LAURENTI

COACH

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2007

From 1969 to 1973, Steinert was an incredible 84-7-7 and won four state championships. The Spartans went undefeated in 1969 and 1973. It was Laurenti who lifted Steinert from a “good soccer school” into a New Jersey dynasty.

Laurenti graduated from Trenton High in 1941 and served in World War II in 1945. After receiving a Purple Heart in Germany, he graduated from Trenton State College with a degree in health and physical education. Laurenti taught for 20 years at Steinert. He was inducted into the Trenton State (now College of New Jersey) Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984 for his soccer and baseball feats, and passed away in 1991.

Below: Accepting on behalf of the late Mario "Goose" Laurenti is his son, Mark Laurenti.
