ADAM RIESE
CLASS OF '12
YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2023

Adam Riese figured it out a while ago. There are differences
between working out and outworking and this knowledge and
his fortitude helped him become one of the top athletes to ever
play at Steinert High School. A two-sport standout, Riese also
excelled in the classroom.
"Adam Riese is probably the best overall football player I ever
coached," which is extremely high praise coming from former
SHS football coach Dan Caruso. "He was a playmaker that could
take over any game. Adam is incredibly talented, but what
made him stand out was his willingness to outwork anyone and
his competitiveness. He has a refuse-to-lose type mentality that
was contagious with his teammates."
On his way to being named Player of the Year and First Team
All-State – among a slew of accolades -- the senior captain and
team MVP passed for over 2,200 yards and 28 TDs and rushed
for 818 yards and 11 TDs as he led Steinert to a 9-3 mark, its
first-ever playoff win and first-ever state championship game
appearance in 2011.
His athletic abilities are not limited to football. His talents and
work ethic also greatly benefitted Steinert's baseball program.
"Adam was a three-year varsity performer on teams from 2010-
2012," said SHS baseball coach Brian Giallella, "(those teams)
won three CVC titles, two MCT titles and comprised a total of
73 wins in those three years.
"He was not only a solid hitter totaling 70 RBI during his time,
but also an outstanding right fielder."
A four-year honor roll student and scholar-athlete, Riese
received all-county recognition as an outfielder.
"The best memory of Adam has to be his monstrous home run
at Waterfront Park in the 2012 MCT final in a win over Notre
Dame," Giallella said, and Riese confirmed it's something he'll
never forget. “There's no doubt in my mind that if he didn't go
on to play football in college, he would have had a college
baseball career."
As much as he loved playing multiple sports, Riese knew he had
to pick one.
"There was not a favorite between football and baseball but I
knew I had to make a decision, what do I see myself wanting to
pursue going forward," he said. "I love the physicality of
football and I enjoyed being the quarterback and being a
leader. I liked being the one that makes decisions and how my
decisions affected every outcome. I like that pressure."
"Adam still holds almost all the passing records in school history
along with many lifting records in our weight room," Caruso
said of the hard-working Riese.
"The other thing that made Adam such a special player was his
intelligence. His football IQ was off the charts. He was able to
easily grasp concepts that many other players could not and he
knew the entire offense like the back of his hand. This gave him
the ability to just take what the defense gave him on the field
and make plays."
Before heading off to the University of New Hampshire, where
he continued to excel as a student-athlete, Riese compiled
more than 4,300 career passing yards and 46 touchdowns; and
he rushed for over 1,600 yards and 17 scores.
Riese works in the medical device industry. He lives in
Providence, R.I., and recently became engaged to Morgan McCarthy.
