Sue Scheer was a three-sport standout for the Steinert Spartans in soccer, basketball and track
and field receiving 12 varsity letters. Although best known for her All-American soccer career,
she set a Mercer County record in the javelin. She was named all-county in track and field and
soccer three times. She led the girls soccer team in scoring for three straight seasons,
including the 1988 state championship year. She captained two squads at SHS in soccer and
basketball.
She concentrated on her main sport in college, playing soccer at the Division I level.
She was a four-year starter at Stony Brook and earned an ECAC Merit Award in 1993. She has been
successful as a player and a coach in youth soccer, including the competitive travel club circuits
as well as the Olympic Development Program. Her experiences include coaching a high school team in
Virginia as well as the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club. Currently she is an assistant women’s
soccer coach at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.
