BOB SMITH

CLASS OF '69

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2006

Smith was a three-year varsity performer and two-year starter at Steinert. The Spartans won a state title his sophomore season, and Smitty earned All-County honors as a junior and senior. During a four-year career at Rider College, Smith was the Broncs leading scorer every season and set school records for goals in a season and a career. The career mark still stands and the season mark was just recently broken. Bob was named the Mid-Atlantic Conference’s Most Valuable Player his junior and senior seasons.

Smitty was drafted by the expansion Philadelphia Atoms of the North American Soccer League. As a member of the NASL’s All-Rookie team, he helped the Atoms become the first, first-year expansion team to win a professional league title. Before his career ended in 1982, Smitty became one of just three American players to win three NASL titles. Smitty was a seven-year member of the U.S. National Team. Bob now coaches and instructs youth soccer.
