The 1956 Hamilton High graduate, who went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Vermont
and a Master’s Degree at Trenton State College, served as the Reynolds Junior High School coach from
1963-73. Paul guided Steinert from 1974-88 and established himself as one of the top coaches in New
Jersey. During Tessein’s tenure, Steinert went 257-49-28, won four state championships, five Central
Jersey crowns, six Colonial Valley Conference titles and two Mercer County Tournament championships.
Steinert was ranked in the state’s Top 20 all 15 years, finishing No. 1 twice.
Paul also coached 25 years for the Olympic Development Program Team and a number of recreation
and travel teams. He was president of the Hamilton Township Recreation Soccer League, and helped expand
the organization from a local league to include travel teams.
