BOB ZARR

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2007



Zarr, who died in August 2005 at the age of 62, participated in a variety of sports, but was best known for track and field, basketball and football. He dabbled in baseball and soccer before settling into an all-star career that included championships in discus and shot put. He was the first to earn eight varsity letters at SHS. He also earned eight medals in track and field competitions throughout central and south Jersey. The 6-foot-8 inch Zarr made a big impression in basketball when the Spartans defeated a team from Brooklyn, NY in a TV Game of the Week.

Zarr attended Trenton Junior College and Trinidad Junior College of Colorado and made the most of one season at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Lobos went 23-6 and shared the Western Athletic Conference championship with Arizona State. Zarr helped UNM to a second-place finish at the National Invitation Tournament at Madison Square Garden. After his college career, he continued to be heavily involved with youth softball where he was an assistant coach with numerous travel and all-star softball teams with the Hamilton Girls Softball Association.
